Dear Piano
Lover,
When you sit down at the
piano, what do you play?
Do you just noodle around and try to improvise a little?
Are you a sight reader, as I was growing up? (I tell you, sheet music
is a WHOLE lot more expensive today than it was when I was younger!)
Or do you thumb through a "fake book" looking for new tunes to play?
If you haven't discovered fake books yet, I URGE you to get one as soon
as possible. The way I look at it, fake books are collections of the
most efficient type of music that you can buy...
The lead sheet.
With just melody, chords and sometimes lyrics on 1 or 2 sheets of paper
(sometimes just half a page), lead sheets have all the "key"
information you need to play virtually any tune on the piano.
But What EXACTLY Should You
Play
When Reading A Lead Sheet?!
There are plenty of piano
methods, courses, lessons and techniques you could turn to.
In fact, my own video
piano courses and guides have taught 1000's of piano players around the
world how to improve their playing - from small improvements to major
breakthroughs.
And even though my goal is always to provide fast, simple, effective
piano tools you can use in all your playing...
And even though I do my
best to give examples of the techniques I teach with every course, it's
not often that I really DIG DEEP into a song and explain exactly
how to build an arrangement from
scratch.
And how to make a particular song just sound GOOD.
But that's about to change.
You see, while talking about an augmented chord in one of my recent
courses, I was reminded of the Jimmy Durante recording of that great
old song - "Stardust" - from the movie "Sleepless in Seattle."
There's just something so dreamy and intoxicating about that melody,
and Jimmy Durante's interpretation is a classic.
So, I grabbed a lead sheet for "Stardust" and sat down to play it.
That's when I realized that it's high time I did an in-depth
"dissection" of a lead sheet and really put the techniques I teach into
practice, explaining every step in detail.
"Lead Sheet Breakdown" Is Born
And that's the moment I
decided to create a series of lessons called "Lead Sheet Breakdowns."
And what better tune to start with than "Stardust"?
This song was written in 1927 by Hoagy Carmichael, on an old upright
piano in the Keuka Hotel on Keuka Lake, a Finger Lake in Western New
York. It's been recorded over 1500 times and is regarded by most
critics as one of the greatest songs of the last 100 years.
Rather than just do a quick 15-minute lesson showing how to play this
great song, I decided to do it right for this first lesson in my "Lead
Sheet Breakdown" series.
So, I created 7 different videos - a total of nearly 90 minutes -
covering everything from creating an introduction, analyzing the melody
to help your playing and memory, creating an overall arrangement,
adding embellishments and improvisation.
I've created a number of substitutions for the main chords, and I've
even included an 8-page "music-less" piano chord chart showing the exact voicings
I use in the videos, so you'll have ALL the pieces you need to recreate
my arrangement of this great song for yourself.
Oh, and just a quick note, for copyright reasons, I can't give you the
lead sheet directly. However, in the course, I show you where you can
get the very same lead sheet I use for under $3 (or free!) - so you can
follow
along with me.
Here's Exactly What You'll
Learn In This
Lead Sheet Breakdown Of "Stardust"
How to quickly look at
the structure of the lead sheet to find melodic and harmonic patterns -
this really helps in memorizing the tune (if you want) and reducing it
to its simplest components to make it easier for your brain and fingers
to comprehend.
How to create a quick, simple introduction
and ending - in fact, I give you several different ideas for an ending.
Exactly where to play chords for the best
sound and maximum effect.
Chord substitutions to give your
arrangement that professional sound.
How simple little embellishments can really
improve the sound of the song.
How to create a quick bass pattern -
rhythmically and harmonically - that keeps the song moving while
keeping it easy to play and sounding great.
How to use chord inversions to support the
melody and provide additional rhythm.
Where and how to improvise within the
arrangement.

Because of the time and
detail I put into this lesson, this lesson has a value of at least
$105, based on current private lesson rates.

Has To Say After Using My Original, "Professional Piano Chords" Guide:
Sir:
Finding you on the internet was the greatest piano blessing that I have
discovered. Purchasing your product is the BEST MUSICAL INVESTMENT that
I have spent my money on in the last 3 years. And believe me... Over
the past 3 years I have invested literally thousands of dollars in
CD's, Tapes, Books, Music Lessons.
Your program has simplified, what I have exhausted myself searching
for. I am a disabled veteran, so I have much time to practice, study
and research. I literally spend 4 to 5 hours a day practicing on my
Yamaha Piano. For the past 2 years, I have spend $100 each month for
music lessons from a very talented music director. Although he is an
excellent instructor, (I could say musical genius) he sometimes teaches
over my head. (And I consider myself to be intelligent). I have figured
out in 3 hours of disecting your section on 13th Chords, what has
bewildered me with his methodolgy of instruction. Dont get me wrong ..
I have learned a great deal from him, but your program has regenerated
my enthusiasm and has uplifted my spirits and given me great
encouragement.
I finally genuinly feel that there is light at the end of my tunnel. It
all makes sense now. You have filled in the gaps, and I am able to do
this at my pace.
I thank you again, and would highly recommend your product to anyone
that is serious about learning to play music on a keyboard or piano.

What He Only Just Heard Before:
Dear Bill:
Your guide to professional-sounding chords is nothing short of
brilliant! I have been in bands semi-professionally for years as a
singer-guitarist, and now in later years I have enjoyed playing piano
around home as a hobby. Your informative guide is a terrific teaching
tool, but perhaps your follow-up e-mails are even more "key", since
they serve as further incentive for someone to pitch in and get this
stuff learned.
Your information, together with your follow-up program is the best I
have seen in terms of communicating how music works, especially to
those who are intimidated by notes, staffs, clefs, rests, etc. In my
case, I have always been able to "hear" the chords I wanted - now that
I have your book, I am able to play most of them as well.
Thanks, Bill, for sharing this absolutely terrific knowledge.

I wish someone had taken the time to do this
for me when I was studying piano - putting together a complete
arrangement with specific chord voicings and accompanying videos.
As it turns out, I had to create those arrangements on my own, which
was VERY time consuming.

the
heavy lifting for you, and you can quickly add this great song to your
piano repertoire.
I know you'll enjoy this "done for you" piano arrangement and seeing
